At ZARC, the registry operator for South Africa’s .ZA commercial second-level domains, data isn’t just an operational by-product — it’s the foundation of trust, transparency, and accountability in the namespace.
A few years ago, our data was scattered across systems, reports were inconsistent, and no single version of the truth existed. What began as a compliance project to improve regulatory reporting evolved into something far more transformative: a journey to treat data as a strategic asset.
Through a disciplined process of consolidation, verification, and automation, we built a centralised data warehouse that now underpins every aspect of registry management — from regulatory compliance to DNS abuse monitoring, registrar transparency, and long-term strategic planning.
This journey was made possible through close collaboration with TYTO Insights, our analytics partner, who helped us embed data intelligence directly into our registry infrastructure — ensuring data sovereignty, reliability, and near real-time visibility.
Today, ZARC’s approach represents more than just a technical upgrade — it’s a cultural shift toward evidence-based stewardship of the .ZA namespace.
