Every year on 18 July, South Africans and the world pause to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. Mandela Day is a global call to action for people to dedicate 67 minutes – one minute for every year Madiba spent fighting for justice, equality, and human rights – to making a positive difference in their communities.
At ZARC, Mandela’s values of service, integrity, and empowerment resonate deeply with our mission. As the Registry Operator for South Africa’s .ZA second-level domains, we are committed not only to providing world-class, homegrown internet technologies but also to uplifting the people and communities who make our country what it is.
Why Mandela Day Matters to Us
Nelson Mandela believed that everyone has the power to change the world for the better. This belief mirrors our own commitment to creating opportunities through digital access, skills, and innovation. The internet is one of the most powerful tools for transformation, and we take pride in ensuring that South Africa’s digital landscape remains secure, reliable, and inclusive.
Our 67 Minutes
This Mandela Day, the ZARC team dedicated our 67 minutes to MC2 Kids Preschool, where we spent the morning painting and brightening the school, playing with the children, and preparing hotdogs for lunch. To support the school’s future, we also donated larger appliances, toys, and signage.
While these may seem like small gestures, they reminded us of the incredible impact that simple acts of kindness can have when done with great love.
Living Mandela’s Legacy Every Day
Madiba reminded us that “It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” At ZARC, we strive to live this every day – by fostering trust in the .ZA domain space, empowering the digital economy, and enabling businesses and individuals to thrive online.
This Mandela Day, we encourage everyone – our partners, registrars, and community – to do something meaningful, however small, to spread kindness and uplift others. Together, our collective actions can honour Mandela’s legacy and create lasting change.
